John Bartlett

With cuts reminiscent of 'Saturday night fever', this season's collection was just as hip as it was classy. Waify boys are not in John Bartlett’s vernacular, and the beefy silhouette of this tweedy Seventies show enhanced a man’s solidity -while leathers and boyish cutoff knickers hinted at a freewheeling private life. With a parlor vibe and a bell-bottom cut to the pants, Mr B’s aesthetics shone through. Whiffs of 1970s luxe -exploded houndstooth overcoats, 3-piece suits with flared, bellbottomy pants, turtle necks, belted blazers, short trenches -mixed up with a macho, Alpine influence : leather pants that can only be described as lederhosen trousers, shown along with knickers and form-fitting, short-sleeved leather shirts in loden green. It's a little bit Tom of Finland spends a weekend in the mountains. Certainly a collection for an older crowd... perhaps those who actually lived during this decade. Sideburns anyone ?
