Irish pop twins Jedward began recording material for their third studio release at the end of last Summer, tentatively scheduled for release during the second quarter of 2012. It was announced in January 2012 that the duo were once again set to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012, with a track entitled "What's your number", penned by the writers of their previous entry, "Lipstick". However, it was announced shortly thereafter it had been replaced in favor of "Waterline", a track penned by Swedish-based American songwriter Sharon Vaughn and Swedish songwriter and producer Nick Jarl. "Waterline" débuted on February 9, 2012, to positive reception. The track was released as a single on February 24, 2012. In April 2012, the duo announced that their third studio album would be entitled "Young love". The release date of the album was initially confirmed to be June 1, 2012, in an advert posted on Jedward's official YouTube account, but the release was later pushed back to June 22 in Ireland, June 25 for the United Kingdom and Europe, and June 26 for the United States, although only Ireland, Germany and the United Kingdom will receive a physical release. In April and May, Jedward uploaded previews of several album tracks to their YouTube account. These included the title track "Young love", "What's your number", "Happens in the dark", "POV", "Can't forget you" and "Luminous". A preview of the track "A girl like you" was later uploaded to Universal Music Sweden's official website. On May 16, 2012, the album's artwork was revealed. The cover features the twins without their regular quiffs, in a dark, shadowy-style shot. In Ireland, copies of the album ordered through the official Jedward store will come encased in a cardboard box, with the words "Jedward" and "Young love" engraved into it, as well as an engraved picture of a heart that is sprouting wings. This version will be available in Ireland only. On May 29, 2012, the album's official tracklisting was announced. Although Jedward announced that the album will contain a total of fifteen songs, only the first twelve of these tracks are included on the physical editions in the United Kingdom and Germany. On June 11, 2012, it was announced that the album's title track, "Young love" would be released as the second single from the album, with a worldwide digital-only release on June 15.
