Fifteen shades of grey, it is. Brit author Erika Leonard James can bear-speculate upon her erotic novel. Micah Cohen, the 30-year-old founder and designer of Shades of Grey by Micah Cohen, was born and raised in Los Angeles. After graduating from Pitzer College and the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, he launched his first menswear line, Shades of Greige in 2006. As his next step forward, he launched Shades of Grey in the Fall of 2010 with a line of contemporary wearable clothing that never strays far from classic inspiration and the timeless simplicity of the basics. Updated with progressive styling and details, it blurs the boundaries between fashion forward and traditional. It is never too much of any one thing. In a world of black and white extremes, it’s good to know there is still Shades of Grey. Fifteen then, more precisely, for this first presentation that took place at New York's Industria Gallery. Fifteen takes on the new suit. Now that guys can go get a great slim suit just about anywhere, it's become about pairing the jacket and pants in ways that work for everyday versatility. Stack a parka on top, mix in some tailored sweats down below : it feels fashiony at times, sure, but it's accessible. More than anything, it's realistic and gives us more for our money when we purchase a tailored garment. Micah Cohen keeps his prices affordable while offering something every guy is going to want. This collection is a good example of that casual formality that we're seeing everywhere these days. Try it. No doubt Christian Grey would. And Ana Steele would agree.
