Parachute Youth - "Count to ten"

If there’s one thing we can learn from Parachute Youth’s origins is that even great things can come out of boring house parties. Sydneysider Mathew Gill aka Matt KVon and Adelaidean John Courtidis aka Jonny Castro met at such a shindig, got talking and within half an hour, pissed off home to tinker on some tunes. The results proved far more inspiring than the party that brought them together, with the pair penning the blueprint for their début single "Can’t get better than this". After a few more months simmering in the studio, Matt (a former airforce avionics technician -hence the band’s name) and Jonny (a producer/muso in a band called Def Starr) threw caution to the wind and moved to Paris, where the house parties were obviously even more exciting. Now based in Melbourne and signed to an Aussie label, the duo have floored us with their hypnotic final cut of their first hit and its dazzling music video by Julien Paolini (in the expandable), which captured an annual motorcycle race in the West African country of Burkina Faso. "Count to ten" is the title of their newest single. Take a look at their fantastic video directed by Alexander Christenson.

Hailing from the minster town of Halifax in West Yorkshire, England, Declan-John Geraghty grew up fast to follow his passion of photography in Leeds -a much bigger city. His studies also allowed him to escape and focus on something positive. Modeling has been a whirlwind that's taken over his life in the couple of months since getting signed. It allows him to be as eccentric as a proper Englishman. He plans to ride the wave and see how far it takes him.

These are troubled times for the fashion world. Accumulation has replaced selection and trends self-destruct and regenerate within a couple of hours. This is an age in which people are led to consume frenetically and throw away tons of clothing, images and references. What is the significance of design within this context ? In order to respond to this question, young Madrid-based designer Pablo Ruiz Galán created a men's collection, entitled "New life", whose point of departure consisted of clothing items donated by friends and acquaintances -a network of 300 providers. It is a combinatory experiment in which every stitch establishes an impossible link between eras, persons, styles and functions. Recycled materials from as disparate sources as a tent or an IKEA bag; any valid support to dismantle and re-turn to life in a new garment. Re-usable materials that become souvenirs of a rhizomatic web of feelings and the pieces acquire a new life through an architecture of broken lines and poetic volumes. A sustainable collection based on the deconstruction that revamp the male wardrobe with a display of geometric layers that combined a blend of prints with chiffon transparencies. You'll even find three outfits made of used labels ! In a time of massive unemployment, economic crisis, junk bonds, fear, disillusion, impotence and uncertainty, RuizGalán proposes an ecology of style and reaffirms fashion's capacity to generate bright architectures and future projects. Not only did this collection bring a new life to old items, it also brings a breath of fresh air in menswear. Kudos.

I don't think it's really necessary to present him. Anyway, Filippo Neviani aka Nek, is a very popular Italian singer-songwriter. His stage name dates back to 1992, when his début album was released with this title. He has just dropped a new single, "Congiunzione astrale " ("Astral conjunction'), taken from his eleventh album simply titled "Filippo Neviani" due out on April 16th. The song is about the story of two persons, Jason & Kim, who met several times in their lives without ever noticing each other's presence, at least until the end, when the astral conjunction occurs. Russian act Raï (meaning Paradise) has finally released a proper video for their single "Моя игра" ('My game') composed a couple of years ago by Andrey Chorny and Oleg Tokarev. It's never too late. Raï used to be a professional dancer performing in nightclubs. After studying voice with the best teachers in Moscow, he was invited to lead a pop band. Two years later, he launched his solo career. Take a look at this über-flamboyant video featuring the extravagant chess king directed by Andrey Shuba.

Hurts - "Blind"

Theo Hutchcraft and Adam Anderson, the Mancunian boys of synthpop duo Hurts, have just released without warning another single off their second album, "Exile". "Blind" will be released on May 12, 2013. The accompanying video was shot by Nez Khammal last month in Frigiliana, Mollina and Archidona near Málaga, Southern Spain. The production team has chosen the most diverse locations, from the old quarry on the slopes of the Fort, to the streets of the old town, the church square, or some picturesque local trade. Whilst filming the singer was running and he fell from the top of the stairs all the way down and into an iron gate, hurting his head and eye and he needed stitches. After that the filming was continued. That's what Hurts is all about...

Seo In-Guk, 25½, is a South Korean singer and actor. He launched his singing career after winning the talent reality show Superstar K in 2009, and made his acting breakthrough in the 2012 cable series "Reply 1997". Hailing from Ulsan, the country's seventh largest city, he started dreaming of a career when he was 10, after listening to rocker Kim Jung Min. Being a shy boy, he discovered his talent by standing on stage at family gatherings and school events, and eventually started to audition at some of the biggest entertainment agencies. After being repeatedly rejected and told to lose weight, he struggled with bulimia -the vomiting only damaged his vocal cords temporarily. After his acting début last year, Seo In-Guk is back in the music scene with a brand new single "With laughter or with tears" (the Korean title means 'I smiled then I cried'), which is his first soulful ballad to date, and which is taken from his newly released eponymous album. Take a look at the video also featuring actress Ku Hye Sun -who also wrote of the song in the album- in what looks like the beautiful agony after a break-up.

Navruz Sobirov is a young talented Uzbek singer originally from Urgench, the main city of the Xorazm Province. For those of you who are fans of Turkish superstar Bengü, he has just covered her 2009 megahit "İki melek " ('Two angels). Too bad I can't speak Uzbek, I have no idea what "Mani sev " actually means.

Raego - "Psychopat"

Raego aka KšandyKid (the first word meaning 'braces') is a singer from Prague, Czech Republic who's mostly known for being a television host on the music channel Óčko. Once in a while he releases a single and "Psychopat" is the latest one. The video may look violent but it's merely a joke first. On the contrary, he's used to fighting against fascism, racism, communism and alot more isms and he's very tolerant of gypsies, gays, rappers, or Muslims -almost another ism. And he's not misogynistic, he loves women : the last words of the video, "Naše ženy, náš poklad " can translate to 'Women are our treasure'. In his own words, he's not an artist, he's an arrogant entertainer. He does what he enjoys. And he enjoys having fun.
Už po prvním poslechu mě doslova okouzlit jak text, tak video. Výborná práce. Nemůžu ho vymazat z hlavy.
