Mr Start -of Shoreditch Start boutique fame- has become a sartorial force to be reckoned with when it comes to contemporary men's formalwear since 2008. Excelling in both bespoke and ready-made suiting, the London-based label has become well-known for its expert craftsmanship and relaxed approach. For this season, Philip Start presented in his first runway show exactly why it has been such a hit with young scenesters and nine-to-fivers alike. "Tailoring is where everything comes from, so I suppose you could call that our underlying 'theme'. We're creating a slightly softer version of what we were doing before, so we've deconstructed the tailoring to give a more relaxed feel through all the fabrics", stated the designer. A traditional yet sombre collection that comprised some relaxed garments such as short-sleeved polo shirts with woven collars. Casual granddad collar shirts mixed with formal suits in double or single-breasted one and two-buttoned versions hinted at old-school influences, while cropped hemlines created a shrunken silhouette and an air of nonchalance that is so of the moment. Topped off with grosgrain-trimmed hats, this collection got the balance between classic and achingly-cool spot on. Fabrics included thin, breathable wools and beautifully engineered cottons that were easily mistaken for elegant crisp wool fabrics. An elegant raincoat in a beautiful shade of rust by Private White VC and stunning bags by Jas MB were stylish complements to a collection that played it safe and yet stylish. Which is not so bad at all.

The Wanted definitely knows how to please their fans ! The Britirish boyband signed with the E! Network to have their very own reality television series. These five hunks, known for their eccentric personalities, are super excited to partake in their very own show, which is said to begin in June and will be a BTS look into their hectic lives. Their fans will be able to see them in a different light and find out what they are really like, which is always enjoyable. The idea was sparked between The Wanted’s manager, Scooter Braun and Ryan Seacrest. The show will illustrate the journey of producing the band’s third full-length album that is set to be released in the Fall. An international tour is in the works for the band, also starting around the same time their album comes out. The show will take place in the Hollywood Hills where the boys will all be living in a house together. A recent press release stated that the show will be unvarnished and nonglossy. With personalities as strong as this fivesome, it will be hard to keep it PG.
To promote their upcoming show, The Wanted have just released a second video for "All time low", their début single (2010) featuring footage of their world tour.

Christopher Shannon

On the invitation to Christopher Shannon's show was an image from James Pearson-Howes' series "British Folk", about, in the words of the photographer, the "darker, more obscure cultural traditions that persist in the UK". In the picture, a man kitted out like some kind of Abominable Scarecrow trips through a scad of normally dressed locals in a UK town somewhere or other. "I think that guy's called the Idiot", Christopher Shannon said by way of explanation backstage after the show. "It's basically a drunken race". The shapes of the pieces themselves were rather conventional, as the designer admitted. They're elasticized shorts, collared shirts, polos, and denim jackets, kept simple, he insisted, because he wants them to be worn so. And according to one of his retailers, seen grinning his way out the show, that, for all their manic energy, is what keeps them selling briskly. His boys may have lost their heads, but he's got his. Having never experienced the camaraderie of the scout movement, this is how I imagine it to be : badges of honor stuck to every surface that will take them (like Justin Bartha in last week's episode of "The New Normal"); a bonanza of textures and layers worn one over the other; crazy make-up courtesy of field flowers everywhere -and an endless stream of vibrant colors. And this collection seemed to agree. English folklore and regional folk dancers were explored with real guts. Who else would have sent a grown-up man, fully covered in strips of fabric pointing in every direction down the catwalk ? When he was being less literal, wonderful individual pieces shone through. The way Christopher Shannon had incorporated fringed, embroidered panels into his designs was unique. When a formal cream shirt was combined with a pair of patchwork trousers, the end result was everything but eccentric. It was spot on. Violet hues, burgundy, blues of all sorts, reds and greens were a reoccurring feature. The designer wanted to deal with color without having to resort to digital print, which in itself was a feat. And as far as those cork necklaces go, think every scout will want one ?
